Travis Eugene Johnson, 58, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Travis was born on November 25, 1967, in Torrance, California, to William and Linda (Louthan) Johnson Jr. He was raised in DeWitt, Iowa, until his late teens, when his family moved to Garden Grove, California, where he finished his high school years. In 1989, Travis made Iowa his permanent home where he spent his life as a carpenter. He took immense pride in his craftsmanship and the relationships he built with his clients. In July 2005, Travis met the love of his life, Valerie (Jacob’s-Johnson). They were united in marriage on July 11, 2017. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter while raising their family in Des Moines, Iowa.

Family was the center of Travis’s world. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with his children and 12 grandchildren, who lovingly knew him as “Papa T”. Whether he was hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, camping, canoeing, kayaking or simply enjoying the outdoors, Travis found joy in nature and loved sharing those adventures with the people he cared about most. His generous heart, easygoing spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Valerie, his children; Drew Thompson, Jonathon Beard, Lucas Johnson, Elijah Johnson, and Nicole Beard, his cherished grandchildren; Madilyn, Cynthia, Braelin, Logan, Declan, Kali, Arlo, Charlie, Millie, Hollis, Skylan and Kay, Mother; Linda (Louthan) Johnson, his siblings; Melissa (Kevin) Becker, and Angela (Johnson) Ford, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Travis was preceded in death by his dad; William Johnson Jr., grandparents; William and Estelle Johnson Sr., Morris and Pauline Louthan, in-laws; Donald and Barbara Schultz, his Uncle Dan Clark; his brother-in-law; Robert Jacobs, his beloved four-legged companions.
