Obituary

She had a contagious laugh that brightened a room, and her circle of friends was a reflection of the many lives she touched.

Tisha Andrea Brooks, lovingly known as Tish, passed away on September 3, 2026, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born on January 5, 1982, in Des Moines, and was a woman whose presence brought warmth, laughter, and love to those around her.

Tisha attended Des Moines Public Schools and graduated from East High School. Throughout her life, she worked hard managing different restaurants, bringing dedication and strength to her work. She was known as someone who gave her best and carried herself with determination in all she did.

Outside of work, Tisha found joy in the things that brought people together. She loved cooking and was especially known for her seafood boil, macaroni and cheese, and cakes, favorites that her children especially loved. She liked going to the casino, enjoyed R&B music, and treasured going on long drives. These simple pleasures reflected the spirit of a woman who knew how to enjoy life and create lasting memories with the people she loved.

Tisha will be remembered as mellow yet high-spirited, outspoken, funny, and deeply devoted to her family. She had a contagious laugh that brightened a room, and her circle of friends was a reflection of the many lives she touched. Above all, she was a family person whose love was felt in the care she gave, the meals she prepared, and the time she shared.

She leaves to cherish her memory her partner, Marcus Lester; her children, Tylynn Brooks, Laniya Brooks, Samara Brooks, Marquez Lester, and A'mya Brooks; her grandchildren, Asaniy Lester and Honour Brown, who is on the way; her mother, Adrian Brooks; her grandmother, Dorothy Murray; and her sisters, Tamara Francis and Alex Bush-Gill; along with a host of many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Each of them carries forward the love, laughter, and strength that Tisha gave so freely, and her memory will remain close in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Bush; her grandfather, Don Murray; her cousins, Dawnise Williams, Stashaun Williams, and Zachary Brooks; her brother-in-law, Trey Lee; and her friend, Aaronda Dant.

Tisha’s life was marked by love for her family, pride in her work, and a joyful spirit that made her unforgettable. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
