Timothy Robert Williams, 79, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, August 16, 2026, in Des Moines.

Tim was born on April 15, 1947, to Harlan and Marion (Huncke) Williams. A lifelong Des Moines resident, Tim grew up in the city he loved and graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School. He went on to attend the University of Iowa, where he earned his bachelor’s degree and became a proud member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He continued his education at Drake University, earning his Juris Doctorate, being honored with the prestigious Order of the Coif.

Tim dedicated more than 50 years to the practice of law in Des Moines, specializing in real estate. He was exceptionally good at what he did and, more importantly, genuinely loved doing it. The law was far more than a career to Tim; it was a craft he took great pride in and a profession to which he devoted much of his life. Throughout the years, his partners were like family to him. He continued practicing until his health declined, finally retiring in 2026. While Tim was proud of his career, there was much more to him than his professional accomplishments.

He loved his family, friends, fishing, golfing, traveling, and simply enjoying life. He had a wicked sense of humor, a razor-sharp mind, and a quick comeback for nearly any occasion. Tim was the undisputed supreme champion of crossword puzzles and Sudoku. He was sharp, sophisticated, funny, and one of a kind (except of course he wasn’t, thanks to his twin brother).

Those left to cherish Tim’s loving memory are his children, Kerry (Eric Gates) Williams, Christopher Williams, and Colin (Katie) Williams; granddaughter, Madysen (Nelson), and bonus grandchildren Easton, Canon, and Lennon; Stephen “Steve” Williams, his favorite twin brother; nieces, Lisa and Marianne; and many close friends.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Marion Williams; brother, Leslie “Les” Williams; son, Nathan “Nate” Williams; and sister-in-law, Felicia Williams. 

Tim leaves behind a legacy that reaches far beyond the many years he practiced law. He will be remembered for his brilliant mind, his gentlemanly style, his unwavering dedication, his humor, and the unmistakable spark that made him Tim. He was one of the good ones, brilliant, gracious, quick-witted, and impossible to replace. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
