Obituary

Robert A Wright Jr., affectionately known as "Bobby," went to be with the Lord on November 8, 2025.

Bob Wright was born on June 12, 1948, to his parents, Robert Sr. and Berniece Wright. He was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, where he grew up with his sister Charmayne. He graduated from Lincoln High School, where he served as Student Council President and excelled at basketball, baseball, football, and ran track. He later earned his B.A. from the University of Iowa and began his professional career at IBM. Inspired by his father, Bob eventually chose to pursue a career in law. After graduating from Drake University Law School, he joined his father, Robert Wright Sr., in establishing Wright & Wright Law Firm. Together, they practiced law in Des Moines and became respected advocates for justice, providing legal representation and championing the rights of the African American community while addressing a wide range of civil rights and social justice issues.

Throughout his faith journey, Bob attended Union Baptist Church with his mother in his younger years. He later became actively involved in Des Moines First Assembly of God Church. He later attended Metro Assembly of God, a church plant of First Assembly. In his later years, Bob regularly attended New Life Center as well as Cornerstone Family Church, which is now known as New City Church. In his spare time, he also supported the ministry of Gideons International with his time and resources.

Throughout his life, Bob joined several fraternal and professional organizations. Namely, Kappa Alpha Psi, Sigma Pi Phi, commonly known as the Boule, and the National Bar Association.

Bob will be remembered for his unwavering love for God and his family, his sense of humor, and corny jokes. He was known to be a trusted friend who would lend a helping hand to those in need. Bob was also passionate about sports but was a committed Iowa Hawkeye fan, through and through.

On November 8, 2025, he was reunited in glory with his parents, Robert and Berniece Wright Sr.

He is survived by his spouse Countess “Cookie” Wright; daughters, Arica Wright, Kristy Matthews, DeAngela “Nikki” Wright, Ashley (Lucas) Connor; son, Robert “Trey” Wright III ((Esada Wright); grandchildren, Jalynn and Elijah Guzman, Robert (IV) Wright IV, Saint Wright and Kriselle Smikel; sister, Charmayne (Ray)Brown; aunt, Geraldine Daniels; niece Shana Price; nephew, Chane Price; and a host of other relatives and friends.
