Phoebe Ann Blankenship was born on January 8, 1939, in Peoria, Illinois, to Margaret (Young) and Ernest Woerner. From an early age, her life was shaped by faith, family, and a deep sense of compassion. She held her childhood memories in Illinois close to her heart, even after her family moved to St. Charles, Iowa.
Phoebe's faith guided her life's journey. While attending Drake University, she met her beloved husband, Sherman Blankenship. Together, they built a life centered on love, service, and devotion to God. Phoebe later continued her studies at Dubuque College, earning a Master's degree in Theology—a reflection of her calling to serve and her desire to better understand and share her faith.
After moving to Missouri, Phoebe answered that calling by serving as an interim minister. She had a special gift for working with young people, offering guidance rooted in kindness, patience, and a strong moral foundation. She believed deeply in doing what was right, leading by example, and living out her faith through everyday acts of care and generosity.
Family was Phoebe's greatest blessing. As a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she poured her heart into those she loved. Her home was a place of warmth, encouragement, and grace. Though she often joked about her cooking, every meal was prepared with love. Her creativity shone through her sewing—making her own prom and wedding dresses and later crafting clothing for her children, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Each piece she made was a gift of love, patience, and devotion.
Phoebe passed peacefully on January 11, 2026, in St. Peters, Missouri, at the age of 87, surrounded by the promise of eternal peace. She was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Sherman Blankenship; her son, Lawrence Blankenship; her parents, Margaret and Ernest Woerner; and her aunt, Ruth Woerner.
She leaves behind her daughters, Margaret (Timothy) Lake and Ruth (Brad) Jamison; daughter-in-law Anne Blankenship; her grandchildren, Adam, Jonathan, and Danny Blankenship, Christopher and Samantha Lake, and Clover Patton; her great-grandchildren, Ariel, Eric, Elijah, Adaleigh, and Jayden; her great-great-grandchild, Autumn; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Phoebe lived her faith quietly but powerfully. Her life was a testament to love, service, and trust in God. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace, and her legacy of faith and love will continue through the generations she so dearly cherished.
