Mary Louise Ducan, 73, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines. Her visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at New Beginnings Full Gospel Church, 555 E. Euclid Ave., in Des Moines, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Immediately following the visitation, her Homegoing Celebration will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Mary was born on March 27, 1952, in Des Moines to John and Martha (Clark) Duncan. She grew up in Des Moines, where she attended Mission Temple Church and Tech High School. While in school, she met Phillip Mozee. The young couple began raising their family together shortly after. Mary was a homemaker who took good care of her family and anyone else who needed love and food. She then began bartending at various bars throughout Des Moines, where her friendly face always made her customers feel better. She met the love of her life, David Payne, and the couple enjoyed spending time with one another. Mary was a loving soul who helped many people, young and old. Monthly, she donated to St. Jude's Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the ARL.
Mary loved spending time with her family, hosting family BBQ's, playing cards and dominoes, and listening to her vinyl records.
She was preceded in death by parents John and Martha (Clark) Duncan, daughter Tyanne Duncan, love of her life David Payne, siblings Carrie Bumpus, Mary Ruth Simmons, Walter Duncan, Sandra Dant, Lisa Marie Henry, and Angela "Loretta" Duncan, nieces Lashonda Duncan and Aaronda Dant.
Those left to cherish her loving memories are her children Tracy (Kevin) Hendrix, Moniqueca Duncan, Phillip Duncan Sr., Phyllisha Duncan, Amanda Duncan, Nichole Hicks, Todd (Meghan) Buckland, Sophia Morris, and Alonzo Jeffries; honorary sons Anthony (Shonetha)Marshall, Jerome Marshall, Anthony Scullark and many bonus children. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; siblings Ronald "Ronnie" (Faye) Duncan Sr., Satira Duncan-Burrell, Richard (Christine) Duncan, Michael (Julie) Henry, and Vivian Henry; a host of nieces and nephews.
