Johnnie Mae "Maedy" Dennis was born on November 3, 1969, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John and Mary Christine Meeks. She was a proud graduate of Southeast High School, class of 1988. From an early age, Johnnie Mae embraced her faith and was actively involved in various prayer and spiritual growth groups throughout her life.

In 2013, she was briefly married to Frederick Dennis in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Johnnie Mae dedicated many years to working in customer service, retail, and the hospitality industries, always bringing warmth and care to those she served. She had a passion for traveling and took great joy in organizing memorable events for her family and friends.

Johnnie Mae peacefully passed away on May 4, 2026. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Christine and Victoria, and her brother, Johnie B.

She is lovingly remembered by her stepson, James Veal; her siblings Tommy Meeks, Tracy Meeks of Kansas City, Missouri, Mary Alice McKinzy, Joe Ann Meeks, and Nakesha Meeks of Phoenix, Arizona; her dear friends James Boman and Barbara Veal; as well as a wide circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and many cherished friends.

Johnnie Mae shared a heartfelt message with her family and friends: “Respect and be kind and love one another, and know that with God all things are possible.”

Her life was a testament to love, faith, and devotion to those around her, and her memory will forever be treasured by all who knew her.
