John Everidge Bell, born on November 21, 1962, to Benjamin Cecil Bell Sr. and Clymontine T. (Steward) Bell, passed away on February 6, 2026. His journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and a steadfast connection to his community.
John began his education at Des Moines Technical Vocational High School in 1978. John briefly resided in Texas before returning home after an unfortunate accident that left him with a disability.
In Iowa, John demonstrated his caring nature by assisting Pizza Hut, taking orders and connecting with customers, often cheekily sending a few too many pizzas to his parents' home. His true passion lay in his relationships with his family. John cherished spending time with his daughter, Mykeshia, and his beloved nieces and nephews. He had an unwavering love for his family, friends, church members, and his community, thriving on the joy of connecting with people.
John was often found in various local spots such as Ligutti Towers, The Rose, Elsie Mason Manor, or the QT, where his remarkable ability to engage with others quickly shone through. He could easily have had a second career as a stand-up comedian, always making those around him smile with his unique sense of humor. Despite using a motorized wheelchair, John skillfully navigated his surroundings, treating his chair as if it were a vehicle, connecting with many friends throughout the city. He was also an accomplished pool player, which provided him with some extra income and enjoyment. John had a fondness for sweet potato pie, beans, and cornbread, which were among his favorite meals.
John's adventurous spirit was evident in the trusted bond he formed with Bishop Marion D. Eppright and Mother Sandra Eppright, who relied on him to drive their family between Waterloo and Des Moines, among other destinations, embracing his abilities with great faith.
John is preceded in death by his loving parents, Clymontine and Benjamin Bell Sr., and his brother, Dr. M. Anthony Bell.
He is survived by his daughter, Mykeshia; siblings Dr. Ben C. (Julie) Bell Jr., Mary C. Bell, James Curtis (Malissa) Bell, and Brice Nichols; nieces and nephews Dorcelaine (Dominique), Ben III, Aricca, Brian, Mykeshia, Jamilia, and Charmaine; as well as numerous extended relatives and friends.
John Everidge Bell will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and unwavering love.
