Edna Mae Henderson was born July 27, 1952 to Lona Mae (Shelton) and Walter Henderson, Sr. in South Sioux City, Nebraska. She completed her primary education and graduated from North High School in Des Moines. Edna was baptized at an early age and served the Lord at Shiloh Baptist Church, most of her life. Her family was always active in church. Her mother played the piano for the family singing group. Edna knew most of the songs in the "Gospel Pearls" songbook. She sang in the choir, served on the Usher board and was a member of the Red Circle Girls. She most recently joined King of Kings Missionary Baptist Church and LOVED her some Pastor Rabon. As an adult, Edna worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone and Estes Funeral Home. She divided her time with family between Des Moines and Minneapolis. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all that she held close. Her faith remained a steadfast light in her life, guiding her with enduring strength and a deep sense of peace. Edna made her transition early on the morning of October 15, 2025, at the age of 73. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nichelle Henderson; her grandmother, Susie Shelton; her aunt, Alice Morris (who helped to raise her); her brothers, Joseph, John (Shirley), and Thomas Henderson, Sr. Edna leaves lasting memories with her daughters, Tracina (fiancé, Durrell) and Marquetta Henderson (Fonday); grandchildren, Lanisha Henderson, Raeisha Henderson, Tschida Henderson (Aureila), Nichelle (Tee Tee) Henderson, Marvin Njuguna, Mata Henderson, Kenneth (Derrick) Henderson; Dea'majeon Henderson Moore, and Mariana Henderson; great-grandchildren, Elijah Jones, Nariya Henderson, Dontaya Tolefree, and Santravius Tolefree. Edna also leaves her siblings, JoAnn (Harold) Rose, Walter Henderson, Jr. (Donna), Susie (Louis) Patton and Lori Brooks; along with a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and friends. A "Special Thank You" goes to Aunt Margaret Wright and the hospice nurses. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the family.
