Dorothy Mae Scales, 62, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Services are pending. Dorothy was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 20, 1963, to Eddie and Blanche Lee (Spencer) Scales Sr. She grew up in Des Moines, attending North High School. Dorothy worked for many years as a CNA and a caretaker, where she constantly cared for anyone and everyone. Dorothy was a member of the Reconcilers Worship Center. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great nieces, and nephews. Dorothy also enjoyed listening to music. Those left to cherish her loving memory are her daughter, Talonda Kinchelow; grandchildren Emojhia, KashAnae, Nahdeya, ShaNye, Ki'Lani Lee, and Neko; great-grandsons Marcus, Gabby and Josaiah; siblings, Johnny Scales and Edna Allen; a host of nieces and nephews; and many close friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Blanche Lee Spencer; son Darryl Kinchelow Jr.; siblings Ruby L. Shelton, Thomas (Sonny) Spencer, and Eddie Scales Jr.; nephew, Sameual Allen, joined her in Heaven. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
