David Hanes, 55, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away surrounded by the memories of a life filled with music, friendship, and the simple things he loved.

David was raised in the Stuart and Menlo, Iowa, area and spent his adult years making his home in Des Moines. Throughout his life, David held numerous jobs, including working at Spaghetti Works, Schwann’s, a local gas station, and a bowling alley. He was a hardworking man who met many people along the way and made friends wherever life took him.

David had a love for music that was an important part of who he was. He also enjoyed building and collecting model cars. Most of all, David loved his friends. The friendships he made throughout his life meant a great deal to him, and he will be remembered for the connections he shared with those around him.

David is survived by his mother, Beth German of Indianola, Iowa, and his father, Charles Hanes of Dale City, Iowa; several half-siblings; and his longtime girlfriend, Lori Westlake of Tucson, Arizona. He also leaves behind many friends whose lives were touched by knowing him.

David will be remembered for his love of music, his model cars, the many jobs and places that became part of his story, and most importantly, the friendships he held dear. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
