Cynthia, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, in West Des Moines, Iowa. She was born on February 12, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, to Jesse and Mary Belle Haslam.
Cynthia attended United Township High School, graduating with the Class of 1970. She continued her education at the Moline School of Nursing, where she earned her Registered Nursing degree in 1972. She then began a lifelong career and passion for caring for others, dedicating more than 40 years to nursing. She was a member of Higher Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Davenport, Iowa.
Nothing brought her greater joy than being a sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her family was the center of her life. She treasured the time spent with her son and grandchildren, attending their activities and celebrating their accomplishments. She also found joy in singing in the church choir and cooking and baking for those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, as well as her nephews, Matthew Martin and Todd Martin.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Kevin Haslam; her granddaughters, Kandra and Kalyn Haslam; her sisters, Patricia Dunbar, Constance Filer, and Jessica Martin; her nephew, Adrian Dunbar; her nieces, Kandra Lackey and Danielle Mitchell; along with many cousins, extended family members, godchildren, and dear friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who assisted with Cynthia's care over the last few years. Especially the caring staff at Harmony Nursing and MercyOne. Your kindness in taking her to doctor's appointments, running errands, sharing meals, and spending time visiting meant more than words can express. She was an aunt to many.
