Obituary

Robert “Bob” M. Cook

A proud veteran and lifelong Des Moines resident, passed away recently at the age of 81.

Robert grew up in Des Moines, where he was an honor student at North High School, graduating with the Class of 1963. Following high school, he continued his education and attended Grand View College. He then answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army. He received specialized technical training in drafting and engineering at Fort Lewis, Washington, before departing for overseas deployment in 1966. He bravely served with an engineering company in South Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge from military service, he held the rank of Corporal.

Following his time in the service, Robert returned home to Iowa and dedicated many years of hard work to the community as an employee of the United States Postal Service, from which he eventually retired. He was known throughout his life as a kind, thoughtful man of quiet dedication.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar P. Cook; his mother, Mary L. Cook; his brothers, Jack L. Cook, Bill D. Davenport (Shirley); his nephews, Tommy D. Davenport (Naomi) and Johnny P. Davenport (Karla); and his niece, Mary B. Nutt (Tim).

He is survived and remembered by his nephews, Guy R. Cook (Cyndi), Billy Davenport (Amy), and Fred Cook (Lynette); his nieces, Nancy Travis (Bryce) and Theresa Jorgenson (Rob); as well as extended family, neighboring friends, and his fellow veterans.

A committal service with full military honors will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa, on November 12th at 11:00 am, where he will be laid to rest on his family plot.
