Abraham 'Abe' Sommerville passed away on January 17, 2017.
A lifelong resident of Des Moines, Abe was born February 12, 1933. He was a graduate of East High School and could still sing the school song. He received a bachelors degree from Drake University where he also began course work for his Masters degree. He retired from Armstrong Tire and Rubber and DMACC.
Abe was a long time member of Mission Temple Church of God in Christ. From there his church work included being the Treasurer of Home and Foreign Missions, Inc.; a Deacon for 53 years, a dedicated Sunday School Teacher and Church bus driver. Abe was also the Gospel Music DJ on KUCB and KJMC radio stations on Sunday mornings. He had a visible everlasting faith in God that was evident through his love for and service to Humanity
Abe leaves behind his wife of 29 years, Lenola Allen-Sommerville; his children, Arlando Sommerville, Melva Brown and Stephanie Allen;6 grandchildren, great grandchildren; his siblings, Gladys Pinnick Hayes, Emma Ezell, Ida Fisher, Mary Alice King, Martha Duria, Charlene Jones, Betty Arnold, Mamie Corine Woods-Young, Richard McCain, Jon Watkins, Cori Clark and Katie Scott; church family and friends.Visitation
